Job Summary
Grounds Maintenance position at Terrace Park Funeral Home & Cemetery responsible for performing all groundskeeping and maintenance on cemetery, mausoleum, or funeral home properties. Responsibilities include operating lawn equipment (weed eaters, walk-behind mowers, hedge trimmers, edger), assisting with interments and entombments (excavation, lifting and placing casket on lowering device, adjusting crypt/niche fronts), locating interment spaces on cemetery maps, and performing other duties as assigned. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, at least 1 year of grounds experience (cemetery experience strongly preferred), valid driver’s license, and ability to operate large/medium equipment. Must be able to read cemetery maps, identify spaces, and communicate effectively. Outdoor environment with exposure to elements; overtime and travel up to 10% may be required. Physical demands include frequent lifting up to 75-100 pounds. Bilingual ability is a plus.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 1-year grounds experience
- Cemetery grounds experience strongly preferred
- Valid state issued driver’s license in good standing and acceptable driving record
- Ability to operate large and medium scale equipment including riding mowers, backhoes, hi-lows, tractors, Kubota riding machines, Gators, ditch diggers, power washers, golf carts, casket and granite power lifts, trucks and trucks with plows
- Ability to read a cemetery map and locate interment/entombment spaces within the cemetery
- English language proficiency; bilingual is a plus
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to show respect and sensitivity toward families in a physically demanding environment
- Overtime may be necessary or required
- Travel up to 10 percent out of area and local overnight travel
