Job Summary
Conduct building and grounds maintenance tasks, including cleaning restrooms, removing litter, painting features, and performing horticultural duties like mowing, weeding, and pruning. Apply pesticides and herbicides under supervision, safely drive park vehicles with trailers between assignments, and respond to customer inquiries. Assist Year-Round Park Services Staff with special event setup and clean-up while maintaining the park's "Clean, Safe, and Natural" promise. Work outdoors in all weather conditions with a 16-40-hour week from March through December.
Required Qualifications
- Must be 18 years of age
- Possess a valid driver's license
- Possess an acceptable driving record
- High School Diploma or GED
- Some knowledge of the operating procedures and tools used in home maintenance
- Some knowledge of the operating procedures and tools used in lawn maintenance
- Ability to safely drive a truck towing a trailer
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated problem solving skills
- Demonstrated computer skills
- Ability to learn proper maintenance and custodial practices
- Ability to learn how to safely operate mowing tools and equipment
- Ability to develop and maintain effective professional relationships with all stakeholders, including employees, volunteers and the general public
- Ability to perform a wide variety of duties and responsibilities with speed and accuracy under the pressure of deadlines
- Ability to comply with all safety rules and regulations
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and/or written policies, procedures and instructions
- May require business use of personal vehicle to travel between Metroparks locations
- May require work on the weekends and/or holidays
- Requires frequent lifting and carrying of up to 40 pounds and occasional lifting over 60 pounds
- Requires ability to walk and work outdoors for extended periods of time in all types of weather including extreme heat and cold
- Must be able to move about off trail over uneven ground and in wooded areas while carrying equipment
