Job Summary
Lead one of the grounds crews (Mowing, Irrigation, or Maintenance) in the absence of the Lead Groundskeeper to ensure continued operations. Apply chemicals for insect and weed control per established procedures. Clean landscaped areas, storm drains, and parking lots to prevent flooding and remove hazards. Maintain, repair, and transport mechanized equipment including bobcats, roto-tillers, chainsaws, and irrigation components to ensure safe operating conditions. Plant landscaping materials to keep grounds attractive and protect against erosion. Prepare athletic fields for assemblies, events, and recreational activities. Respond to immediate safety and operational concerns regarding facility damage, vandalism, or alarms. Transport tools, supplies, and move school equipment as needed. This position requires travel to multiple sites and the ability to work indoors and outdoors.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of and ability to operate all mechanized equipment necessary for duties such as bobcats, roto-tillers, chainsaws, trimmers, herbicide/pesticide sprayers, aerators, overseeders, lawn sweepers, sod cutters, and pickup trucks
- Knowledge of and ability to repair and maintain different types of irrigation systems
- Ability to use various types of specialized hand tools
- Knowledge of diesel and gas-operated power equipment
- Basic math skills to determine application rates for spraying herbicides and pesticides
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Ability to work well with various types of personnel
- Vision: (which may be corrected) to be able to see with reasonable acuity
- Hearing: (which may be corrected) to receive and interpret communication from fellow workers and tolerate exposure to noisy conditions
- Speech: to be understood in face-to-face communications; to speak with a level of proficiency and volume to be understood over a telephone
- Body Mobility: use hands and fingers to feel, grasp, and manipulate large/small objects; manipulate fingers, twist and bend at the wrist and elbow; extend arms to reach outward and upward; use hands and arms to lift objects; turn, raise, and lower the head; able to climb various types of scaffolding and ladders and out of holes when planting and trimming trees; able to kneel, bend at waist, stoop, twist, and reach above head; able to work in tight place, crawling and working on hands and knee...
