Job Summary

Manage the Grocery Department by preparing weekly sales and labor projections, monitoring costs, and controlling inventory to maximize profits and ensure labor percent compliance. Oversee staff by hiring, training, scheduling, and coaching while approving department work schedules and ensuring adherence to all policies. Execute daily operations by stocking aisles, facing products, verifying tag accuracy, and maintaining cleanliness of shelves, storage areas, and floors. Assist customers with inquiries and product selection while receiving, inspecting, and logging incoming shipments for accuracy. Monitor product rotation to prevent expired stock and balance general ledgers and financial statements. Walk the department regularly to ensure an organized, sanitary appearance and maintain high product knowledge.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency degree
  • Minimum of 4 years professional experience
  • Must maintain the highest level of customer service at all times
  • Must have the capacity to take initiative when problems arise
  • Must have advanced attention to detail with the capability to prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Must have knowledge with MS Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Must be able to lead, support and contribute to team goals
  • Ability to work varied hours/days as business dictates
  • Must understand proper handling, preparation, seasonality, and appropriate shelf life of products
  • Must be familiar with Health Department guidelines and regulations as they pertain to a grocery retail environment
  • Must have advanced knowledge of math, weights, and measures
  • Demonstrate ability to analyze and interpret Company financial statements and results
  • Ability to adapt to the ever changing high volume retail while working in a cross-functional team environment
  • Must have the ability to multitask and have excellent organizational skills
  • Must be able to effectively lead and coach others
  • Must be able to effectively manage and develop staff including hiring, training, scheduling, and initiating performance reviews
  • Must be able to effectively oversee shift operations including writing and/or approving Department work schedules
  • Must be able to effectively manage and control all costs and expenses including maintaining proper ordering and inventory control
  • Must be able to effectively monitor the rotation of all grocery products paying particular attention to expired stock and discarding outdated or spoiled items
  • Must be able to effectively balance the grocery general ledger and financial statements
  • Must be able to effectively manage department inventory control ensuring no out of stocks and/or over-stocks
  • Must be able to effectively walk department regularly to ensure an organized, sanitary, and overall clean appearance
  • Must be able to effectively respond positively to customer's inquiries and assist customers with purchases, information and product selection
  • Must be able to effectively receive, inspect, and log products for accuracy of shipment, temperature, and quality
  • Must be able to effectively ensure weekly flyer ads are in stock and ready for sale during business hours
  • Must be able to effectively ensure cleanliness of grocery aisles, storage area and work area for safety
  • Must be able to effectively stock grocery department including facing, filling, and organization of all product items
  • Must be able to effectively prepare weekly sales and labor projections for the Grocery Department
  • Must be able to effectively adhere to all procedural guidelines set by the Grocery Department
  • Must be able to effectively sustain a high level of product knowledge and product preparation
  • Must have excellent written communication and documentation skills
  • Must have excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills for dealing cross functionally with peers and senior management
  • Must be able to effectively manage all aspects of the Grocery Department including staff, sales, margin, and labor
  • Must be able to effectively manage and develop all aspects of the Total Store in the absence of the Store Director
  • Must be able to effectively assist customers as needed and maintain a friendly, energetic demeanor

Desired Qualifications

  • Preferred 3-5 years grocery retail experience in Grocery department processes and procedures
  • Previous experience in a natural foods industry is a plus
