Job Summary
Grocery Manager overseeing the Fairbanks grocery department: directs operations in the absence of the Store Director and Grocery Manager, supervises and trains personnel, handles ordering, receiving, stocking, pricing, and merchandising, and supports front-end functions. Responsibilities include ensuring customer service excellence, proper cash handling, and adherence to sanitation, safety, and loss-prevention policies. May act as back-up cashier; leads night stockers, approves price changes, opens/closes the store, and ensures compliance with store policies. Requires extensive retail management experience, strong leadership and communication skills, and the ability to supervise and develop staff while ensuring accurate execution of duties across the department.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive retail background with prior management experience related to retail operations
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to supervise employees and develop people
- Knowledge of employment laws and workplace practices
- Ability to manage cash handling, loss prevention, and front-end operations
- Flexibility to work varied times, including weekends and holidays
- Ability to stand, walk, and perform physical tasks for long periods
