Grant Accountant

Job Summary
Track grant revenues and expenditures in the general ledger, ensuring proper coding and compliance with grant agreements. Reconcile grant-related accounts, create and submit invoices for Public and Private grants, and conduct follow-ups to accelerate cash collections. Review accounts receivable aging reports and coordinate with Development and Communications teams to meet reporting deadlines. Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports, compile documentation for audits, and assist with budget development and pre-award reviews. Partner with leadership to streamline financial policies and analyze data for budget modifications. This role reports directly to the Controller within the Finance Department, offering growth opportunities as internal functions develop.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred)
- Minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional accounting experience
- Direct prior experience working within a non-profit environment
- Must have a strong foundation in accounting principles, including GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), budgeting, and financial reporting
- Proven ability to apply accounting knowledge to grant-specific circumstances
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with a diverse group of individuals
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in processing payments, accounting, reporting, and writing
- Self-starter mindset with proven analytical, organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills
- Must have a level of independent curiosity to advocate for effective and seamless financial processes
- Ability to conceive new approaches and streamline processes without constant direct supervision
- Absolute discretion concerning sensitive issues and confidential matters
- Proficient experience with various software applications including MS Office and Google Suite
- Flexibility, patience, and a positive attitude when meeting unexpected project demands
