Job Summary
Graduate Student Research Assistant position at Adler Planetarium on Chicago's Museum Campus, 20 hours per week part-time temporary from June 22 to August 21, 2026. Responsibilities include conducting astrophysics research under supervision, participating in design and evaluation of the ASOM NEO flyby mission, building an asteroid detection model based on LSST parameters, and constructing a pipeline for inversion of lightcurve measurements into a 3-D asteroid shape model for Yarkovsky effect modeling. Flexible telecommuting option with 4 days of remote work and occasional in-person meetings; compensation includes hourly base pay ($19.02/hr) with benefits and paid time off. Requires enrollment in a Master's program and Python coding experience.
Required Qualifications
- Must be enrolled in a course of study leading to a Master's degree in Physics, Astronomy, or other related field
- At least 1 year of experience with research projects.
- Knowledge of asteroid properties, photometric performance of telescopes, and the Yarkovsky effect
- Demonstrated ability to code in Python
