Graduate Coating Engineer

Job Summary
Design, develop, and manufacture optical thin film coatings to meet customer and internal specifications while supporting existing processes and identifying improvement opportunities. Review coating requirements for new product introductions with the optical design team and generate technical documentation for manufacture and quality control. Deliver coating development projects to expand capability, explore new applications, and identify new techniques to support the technology roadmap. Carry out measurement, analysis, and qualification testing on coating samples using spectrophotometers and environmental test chambers. Gain experience in all stages of the coating development process through mentorship by senior engineers at our St Asaph site.
Required Qualifications
- Degree (masters preferred) in physics, chemistry, materials science or other relevant discipline
- Clear technical communication skills including logbooks, presentations and report writing
- Creative approach to problem solving
- Good software skills and able to learn new software quickly
- Adept using Microsoft Excel including mathematical formulas and plotting graphs
- Confident with practical hands-on work and use-of machinery and equipment
Desired Qualifications
- Specific knowledge of optics or thin film coating
- Ability to write code for simple computer programs and scripts
- Experience using analytical techniques and equipment such as electron microscopes, optical microscopes, interferometers or spectrometers
- Experience using computer-controlled machinery and equipment
