Job Summary
Conduct ensembles, teach methods courses, and lead applied lessons as needed by the Division of Music and within your area of expertise. Play in different ensembles as required. Complete a 12-month appointment to support the completion of a one-year master's degree in jazz studies while demonstrating organization, time management, and self-direction. Submit a contract outlining duration, stipend, and hours.
Required Qualifications
- Completed the requirements for the baccalaureate degree prior to enrolling in the first graduate class
- Gained admission to the Graduate School at the University of Arkansas at Monticello or elsewhere
- Bachelor of Music Degree
- At least 18 credit hours in the area of performant, education, or jazz
- Competency on at least one of the instruments listed (saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, bass, set, and voice)
- Provide a recording of two contrasting standard jazz tunes with head and improvisation, specific jazz scales and modes as determined by the program director, and a jazz tune of the applicant's choice with head and improvisation
- Submit a letter of intent
- Submit a curriculum vitae
- Provide name and contact information for 3 professional references
- Sign a contract that outlines the duration of the graduate assistantship, the stipend amount, hours associated with the assistantship, and a description of job duties
- Have proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment
