Job Summary
Operate grading equipment, including skid steers, excavators, loaders, rollers, and other assigned construction equipment to establish and maintain proper grade control for asphalt paving, concrete, and site development projects. Read construction plans, blueprints, and grade stakes to perform excavation, fine grading, and site preparation activities to project specifications. Assist paving and preparation crews with layout, elevations, and workflow while conducting daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections, monitoring fluid levels, and performing basic preventative maintenance. Complete required daily reports, equipment inspections, and project documentation accurately. Communicate with Project Managers and Superintendents regarding project progress, site conditions, and operational needs, identifying and reporting field discrepancies promptly. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized job site while following all company safety policies and OSHA regulations. Participate in winter snow operations and snow removal activities as assigned, working overtime, weekends, and holidays as operational demands require.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Massachusetts Class A, Class B, or Class D Driver's License
- Valid DOT Medical Card
- OSHA training
- Massachusetts (and Rhode Island preferred) Hoisting License 2A-1C
- Commitment to following all company safety policies and procedures
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, and maneuver tools, materials, and equipment weighing up to 80 pounds
- Must be able to perform physically demanding work for extended periods
- Participation in winter snow operations is required based on business needs
- Overtime, weekend work, holiday work, and flexible scheduling may be required based on operational demands
Desired Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of grading, excavation, or heavy construction experience
- Experience operating grading and earthmoving equipment in commercial construction environments
- Ability to establish and maintain grade using grade stakes, lasers, GPS systems, or other grading methods
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and project specifications
- Knowledge of excavation, grading, site preparation, and paving operations
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
