Job Summary

Develop cloud architecture and reference designs for AWS and Azure, guiding workload placement decisions across the multi-cloud estate. Design, deploy, and operate secure, scalable infrastructure while authoring Infrastructure as Code to ensure reproducibility and peer review. Build CI/CD pipelines with automated testing and policy checks, then implement security controls including identity management, encryption, and log aggregation into the enterprise SIEM. Apply compliance controls aligned to NIST 800-53, FedRAMP, and DOE cybersecurity requirements to support assessment and continuous monitoring. Drive observability, reliability, and cost management through tagging, rightsizing, and clear chargeback reporting. Partner with client technical staff to translate requirements into architecture, document designs, and runbooks, while contributing to standardization patterns across both cloud platforms.

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated production experience with Infrastructure as Code — Terraform strongly preferred
  • Working proficiency in at least one scripting or automation language (Python, PowerShell, or Bash)
  • Practical experience with CI/CD tooling (GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, GitLab CI, or Jenkins) and Git-based workflows
  • Solid grounding in cloud networking, identity and access management, and cloud security fundamentals
  • Working knowledge of the second cloud platform

  • Relevant certifications: AWS Solutions Architect / DevOps Engineer (Professional) or Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert / Azure DevOps Engineer Expert
  • Experience handling Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and applying NIST 800-171 / 800-53 controls in practice
  • Containerization and orchestration experience (Docker, Kubernetes, EKS/AKS)
  • Experience developing cloud strategy artifacts — reference architectures, roadmaps, migration assessments, or cost/benefit analyses — for enterprise stakeholders
  • Exposure to research or scientific computing environments, including HPC integration or large-scale data movement
  • Experience with policy-as-code and drift detection (Open Policy Agent, Sentinel, Azure Policy, AWS Config rules)
  • FinOps experience or certification, or a track record of measurable cloud cost reduction
  • An active or recently active DOE clearance (L or Q)
