Job Summary
Government Affairs Executive responsible for developing and implementing strategic advocacy plans to influence public policy, regulations, and legislative results in assigned state/local markets; build and maintain relationships with legislators, regulators, and trade associations; manage outside consultants/lobbyists; communicate timely information to internal/external stakeholders; represent the company before policymakers; hybrid work model with some in-office days in Nashville, TN; requires experience in insurance-related regulatory environments, strong advocacy and policy-analysis skills, and ability to navigate complex regulatory landscapes.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience Required, with an advanced degree (MBA, JD) being desired
- Minimum five years of related work experience, 7-10 years of related experience preferred
- Experience in a State DOI, NAIC, or regulatory agency dealing with insurance financial services, state legislator or political campaign, think-tank public policy organization or trade association, corporate government relations department especially in the financial services industry
- Ability to be a registered lobbyist in priority states
- Familiarity with workers compensation and/or personal auto regulations/compliance
- Familiarity with state and federal ethics and election laws
- Excellent communications and influencing skills, including strong written and verbal presentation skills
- Strong composure skills including the ability to work calmly and effectively in high stress situations
- Quick analytical thinker, who can synthesize, translate, and summarize complex policy topics for use by internal and external stakeholders
- Exceptional attention to detail and proven ability to self-direct work
