Job Summary
Provide routine daily nursing care and services to assigned residents in accordance with their assessment and care plans. Work throughout the nursing service area, including drug rooms, nurses' stations, and resident rooms, while moving intermittently and handling frequent interruptions. Communicate with nursing personnel, residents, family members, and government agencies, and make independent decisions when circumstances warrant. Maintain a cheerful disposition and handle difficult residents or emotionally upset situations with tact and patience. Work beyond normal hours, weekends, and holidays as needed, including emergency call-backs for severe weather or evacuations. Possess a high school certificate and a valid Geriatric Nursing Assistant license.
Required Qualifications
- high school certificate
- licensed Geriatric Nursing Assistant
- ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
- knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served
- ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action
- ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public
- ability and willingness to work harmoniously with other personnel
- patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents
- ability to relate information concerning a resident's condition
- ability to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position
- ability to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met
- ability to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet
- willingness to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices
- willingness to handle difficult residents
- willingness to work beyond normal working hours, on weekends and holidays, and in other positions temporarily, when necessary
- willingness to be subject to call back during emergency conditions
- willingness to meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of the Center, which include a medical and physical examination
