Job Summary
Determine Country of Origin for new and existing products by evaluating Bills of Material, manufacturing processes, and supplier information to assign Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications and apply Rules of Origin. Research customs regulations, prepare origin certifications, and maintain trade data within ERP systems to ensure audit-ready documentation for global import compliance. Partner with engineering, sourcing, and manufacturing teams to resolve complex trade compliance questions and recommend process improvements. This role supports Medtronic's global import compliance program, serving as a subject matter expert for 72+ million patients annually.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- 1 year of experience in Global Trade Compliance, Import Compliance, Customs Brokerage, Customs Compliance, or International Trade Operations
- High School Diploma/GED with 4+ years of directly related trade compliance experience
- Experience determining Country of Origin for imported products
- Experience applying Customs Rules of Origin, including substantial transformation analysis
- Experience assigning or maintaining Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classifications
- Experience preparing or supporting Certificates of Origin or Free Trade Agreement documentation
- Experience interpreting Bills of Material, supplier information, manufacturing processes, and engineering documentation to support trade compliance decisions
- Experience working with U.S. Customs regulations and import compliance requirements
- Experience using ERP systems (SAP preferred) and trade compliance software
- Strong analytical and investigative problem-solving skills
- Excellent written communication with the ability to clearly document trade compliance decisions
- Unrestricted U.S. work authorization at the time of hire and for the duration of employment
- If applying in MN: ability to report on site four out of the 5 days a week
- For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States: a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A)
