Job Summary
Lead the expansion of Semafor's business beat from a twice-weekly briefing to a daily must-read by breaking significant, agenda-setting stories on private credit, hedge funds, banking, and the geopolitical forces reshaping capital markets. Write reported columns and analytical pieces with real point of view for executives and investors, while conducting high-profile interviews with senior leaders for TV, podcasts, and live journalism. Develop and maintain deep, senior-level sources across Wall Street and the regulatory ecosystem to uncover scoops other reporters miss. Work closely with colleagues across the global newsroom to deliver rigorous reporting and insights that explain the interests behind polarizing narratives.
Required Qualifications
- Proven, scoop-hungry reporter
- At least 5 years of experience
- Demonstrated track record of sourcing up on Wall Street, inside boardrooms, and private Signal chats
- Clear sense of where the next beat of a big story is heading
- Developed a voice and smart takes on the biggest news in finance
- Ability to move fluidly between breaking a story and writing something authoritative and compelling about what it means
- Comprehensive reader of the competitive landscape
- Awareness of what's been done and what hasn't
- Self-starter with experience in fast-moving, ambitious newsroom environments
- Willingness to jump in wherever the team needs you
- Contagious passion for news in all its forms
