Job Summary
Global Alternative Investment Solutions-Assistant General Counsel at JPMorganChase is a senior-level in-house counsel role supporting GAIS and the Private Bank distribution business, providing expert legal guidance on investment management products, hedge funds, real estate, and private equity, negotiating distribution letters, structuring funds, and overseeing regulatory changes while collaborating across Compliance and Risk; responsibilities include advising on legal issues related to investment management advice, product development and launches, and supervising external counsel, with an emphasis on due diligence, policy development, dispute resolution, and cross-functional initiatives. Strong qualifications include at least 8 years of relevant experience, licensed state/jurisdiction attorney status, excellent academic record, and proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced financial services environment, along with superior communication, drafting, and negotiation skills and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.
Required Qualifications
- Licensed attorney in good standing in the relevant state/jurisdiction or compliant with in-house counsel registration rules
- Excellent academic record
- Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in a law firm, financial institution, and/or comparable environment
- Expert knowledge of onshore and offshore private funds, Investment Advisers Act, fund formation, and fund transactions
- Strong interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Superior verbal and written communication abilities
- Demonstrated legal analytical, drafting, and negotiation skills
- Excellent judgment and decision-making capabilities
- Proven ability to work independently and prioritize multiple projects
- Proactive, dynamic team player with a solutions-oriented mindset
- Willingness to learn new areas of law
- In-house experience in addition to law firm experience
- Strategic skills to anticipate legal issues across diverse business models
- Experience advising on products in which funds invest
- Background in supporting regulatory change implementation
- Experience developing policies, procedures, and training materials
- Track record of successful collaboration with business and control functions
- Ability to supervise and manage external counsel effectively
- Experience resolving disputes with counterparties
- All candidates for roles in the Legal Department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment
- Attorneys must be licensed to practice law and a member in good standing or otherwise eligible to practice law in the jurisdiction in which the position is based
