Job Summary

Manage GIS datasets, create custom maps, and perform spatial analyses for energy, utility, and environmental projects. Organize and validate geospatial data using scripts and queries, while designing and implementing custom field tools within the Esri suite. Troubleshoot GIS software and digital tools, providing staff training on their use. Integrate GIS and CAD data using Autodesk platforms and maintain databases by converting data into GIS-ready formats. Support workflow improvements with Microsoft 365 and Power Platform tools, and stay updated on emerging GIS technologies to solve technical challenges. This entry-level role supports the Utilities Program in a hybrid setup, potentially requiring office proximity to San Luis Obispo or surrounding areas.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, Cartography, Environmental Science, or a related field, or a GIS certificate from an accredited institution
  • At least 1 year of environmental consulting experience in the A/E/C industry, including applicable government role related to A/E/C projects
  • Proficiency with GIS tools and applications, including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Enterprise (Portal, Server), Survey123, Field Maps, and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to learn new GIS, data management, AI-enabled, and productivity tools while following established procedures, documentation standards, and company technology policies
  • Familiarity with publicly available GIS data sources
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Individuals offered employment must successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening as a condition of employment

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience or coursework related to energy, utilities, infrastructure, environmental planning, or public agency projects
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Power Platform tools, including Power BI, Power Automate, Power Apps, or SharePoint Lists
  • Experience using AI-enabled tools to support research, documentation, coding, data review, or workflow development in a responsible and policy-compliant manner
  • IT/Networking/Hardware/General Desktop Support and Troubleshooting experience
  • Drafting using AutoCAD or other drafting software
  • Experience with Adobe products (Illustrator, Photoshop)
  • 3D mapping and modeling
  • Previous experience with relational database development
  • Experience with Python, Arcade, SQL, HTML, JavaScript, R, or other scripting and query languages used to support GIS, automation, dashboards, or data analysis
  • Prioritize candidates who live within 50 miles of a Rincon office
