Job Summary
Plan and conduct organized, age-appropriate basketball practices while teaching fundamental skills, strategies, and game knowledge. Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, tournaments, and team activities to ensure safety, discipline, and sportsmanship. Monitor academic progress and communicate effectively with parents, staff, and administration regarding behavior and attendance. Maintain accurate records of eligibility and participation, complete all required district and IESA paperwork by deadlines, and report injuries or disciplinary concerns to administrators. Ensure proper care of athletic equipment and facilities while attending mandatory meetings and trainings.
Required Qualifications
- Knowledge of basketball fundamentals, rules, strategies, and appropriate coaching techniques
- Knowledge of and willingness to comply with IESA rules and regulations
- Successful completion of all required federal, state, and District background checks and clearances
- Ability to establish positive relationships with students while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
- Strong communication, organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills
- Demonstrated commitment to student-athlete academic and personal success
- Ability and willingness to work after-school practices, games, tournaments, and other required activities
Desired Qualifications
- Experience teaching, coaching, or working with middle school-aged students preferred
- Previous basketball coaching or playing experience preferred
- Experience working with diverse student populations, including students from urban communities, preferred
