Job Summary
Establish and maintain a sterile field, correctly pass instruments to clinicians, and participate in surgical counts for sponge, needle, and instruments. Communicate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other staff to facilitate continuity of care while following all regulatory standards and patient safety goals. Participate in the nursing process for patients of all ages and contribute to unit educational activities. This Certified Surgical Technologist role supports perioperative care at Carilion Clinic's Pearisburg facility, ensuring quality patient outcomes through strict adherence to departmental policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Successfully completed an accredited surgical technologist training program
- Holds a current credential as a certified surgical technologist from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or its successor
- Successfully completed a training program for surgical technology during the person's service as a member of any branch of the armed forces of the United States
- Certification in Surgical Technology
- LPN licensure
- Registration with the VA Dept of Health Professions
- Knowledge of instrumentations
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served
- Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development through the life span
- Interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age and specific needs
- Provide the care needed as described in departmental policies and procedures
