Job Summary
The Unconventional (TU) seeks a qualified German Reviewer/Editor/Certifier to support the Department of Justice (DOJ) with Translation, Interpretation, Transcription and other Linguistic Support Services (LSS). Responsibilities include translating documents and multimedia content across legal, medical, financial, historical, and technical materials; handling court and deposition interpretation; maintaining strict confidentiality for sensitive material; utilizing CAT tools (notably SDL Trados Studio); ensuring translations are factually and conceptually accurate while preserving tone and register; and applying linguistic ethics. Requires ILR 4 or equivalent, five years of experience in the language, U.S. citizenship, at least one year in a legal/law-enforcement context, and eligibility for Public Trust or higher clearance. Travel may be required. Location options include Remote / National Capital Region / Various CONUS Locations.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the required language
- Superior skills in English and editing
- Qualifying ILR 4 minimum or equivalent
- Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S. (not necessarily consecutive)
- At least 1 year of experience with a law enforcement and/or legal department
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Know bilingual vocabularies in formal, legal, diplomatic, consultative, and casual contexts
- Know specialized vocabulary in English and a foreign language related to government roles and missions
- Native-language fluency with professional command of non-native language
- Translate accurately with no changes, omissions, or additions while preserving tone and register
- Abide by relevant code of linguist ethics
- Proficient in using Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, SDL Trados Studio
- Clearance: Active Public Trust or higher security clearance
