Geotechnical Project Engineer

Job Summary

Lead a staff of engineers and technicians to plan, execute, and oversee geotechnical investigations, including drilling, lab testing, and report preparation. Prepare engineering analyses, designs, calculations, drawings, and specifications for project review. Collaborate with architects, structural engineers, and contractors to maintain design responsibility, review mix designs, and visit job sites. Assist in proposal preparation, fee estimates, and client billing while mentoring staff and staying current on industry regulations. Perform or oversee geotechnical lab testing and training. Requires a Michigan P.E. license, 5-10 years of experience, and local travel to construction sites. Full-time role Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with overtime as required.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent
  • Michigan P.E. License or ability to obtain within six (6) months
  • 5-10 years of geotechnical engineering experience showing progressively increasing responsibility
  • Experience with typical computer software programs used for geotechnical engineering design including deep foundation, earth retention, pavement design and slope stability
  • Self-motivated and responsible
  • Ability to work collaboratively on a project team
  • Ability to plan ones' own time and demonstrates good time management skills
  • Ability to problem-solve, complete assigned tasks efficiently and exercise sound engineering judgment
  • Ability to work on several projects concurrently, prioritize work load and cope with tight timelines to meet all deadlines without compromising quality
  • Effective written and verbal communication
  • Ability to shape communications for specific audiences and can accept and receive feedback
  • Strong attention to detail and has an aptitude for noticing small errors on engineering designs
  • Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate CAD, computers and various pieces of office equipment
  • Must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 25 pounds
  • Full-time position
  • Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Overtime as required
  • Travel will be required to respective job sites and is primarily local during the business day
