Job Summary

Monitor daily performance of mine earth structures by delivering geotechnical measurements using Slope Inclinometers, Vibrating Wire Piezometers, and Shape Accelerometer Arrays. Collect and perform quality control on instrumentation data while diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing equipment. Conduct off-road driving in all weather conditions for instrument raises, abandonments, and mine driving. Perform monthly inspections of tools and inventory, attend weekly team meetings, and maintain daily toolbox meeting attendance. Communicate consistently with key stakeholders across Mine Operations, Tailings, and Geotechnical Engineering groups. This student role supports process safety for large earth fill structures at Canadian Natural's Albian Sands site in Fort McMurray, AB.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled or recently graduated in an Engineering Technologist program, Engineering or Geology program in a field related to Mining (Civil, Geological, Geology) from a recognized school
  • Must be able to carry 20 kg 100 m over rough terrain continuously
  • Highly motivated individual with good leadership and communication/networking skills
  • Possess a valid Class 5 Alberta driver's license or equivalent out of province license with a reasonably clean driver abstract
  • A pre-employment drug screening test must be successfully completed
  • All candidates applying to Canadian Natural must have legal authorization to work in Canada with no restrictions

Desired Qualifications

  • Off-road experience is considered an asset
