Job Summary
Provide project support during the build phase to identify and evaluate innovative, cost-effective design solutions for geotechnical challenges. Coordinate geotechnical designs and input for temporary structures while working with the pursuit team to mitigate risks in proposal and bid phases. Develop design recommendations and produce deliverables for EPC/design-build projects, including training and developing staff engineers. This role sits within Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering's Design Engineering group, supporting a multi-disciplinary team across Canada. Candidates must possess a Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, eight years of experience with four years in progressive design, and be eligible for Professional Engineer registration in Ontario.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering
- Total of 8 years of geotechnical engineering experience
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive geotechnical design experience in the infrastructure market
- Registered or eligible to register as a Professional Engineer in Ontario
- Demonstrated broad technical knowledge of geotechnical engineering solutions including: design of deep foundations, shallow foundations, evaluating slope stability, earth retention and support of excavations, settlement of compressible soils, ground improvement techniques, dewatering, working pads, pile drivability
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Demonstrated focus on interdisciplinary design coordination
- Coordination between Engineering and Construction teams
- Experience working in a team setting
- Directing/reviewing the work of others
- Strong interpersonal skills resulting in exceptional rapport with people
- Proven success in initiating, promoting, and maintaining strong interpersonal relationships amongst the team
- Ability to travel to project sites
- Physical ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environmental conditions
- Regular, reliable attendance
- Work productively and meet deadlines timely
- Communicate and interact effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and others individually or in a team environment
- Perform work safely and effectively
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies
- Work during normal operating hours
- Work overtime and weekends as required
