Job Summary
Senior Geotechnical Engineer role leading dam safety and rehabilitation projects for FERC-regulated dams. Responsibilities include leading opportunity identification with utilities, managing project design and production of plans/specifications, mentoring staff, and engaging with professional organizations. Requires PE license, 10+ years in geotechnical/geological engineering, experience with FERC projects, proficiency in GeoStudio tools (SLOPE/W, SEEP/W), strong client relations, and willingness to market services; located to be within commuting distance of Ayres offices.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with geotechnical or geological engineering emphasis
- Registered professional engineer (PE) in a US state with ability to become licensed by comity in multiple states where Ayres has offices
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in geotechnical/geological engineering
- Experience in designs and analyses for dams at FERC projects desirable
- Ability to independently manage projects with budgets of 250 to 2000 hours of engineering time
- Working knowledge of FERC, US Army Corps of Engineers, Bureau of Reclamation, and similar standards for geotechnical analyses of dam and spillway structures
- Experience providing geotechnical engineering support for structural design
- Proficiency in GeoStudio SLOPE/W and SEEP/W or similar tools
- Experience overseeing geotechnical field exploration and laboratory testing for embankment dams
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Excellent communication skills and client relationship building
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record
