Job Summary
Design, develop, and maintain scalable GIS architectures and web-mapping applications while leading technical efforts for geospatial navigation software products. Enforce data quality assurance standards, metadata documentation, and security protocols. Evaluate emerging spatial technologies, including AI and ML, to improve organizational workflows. Manage relationships and contracts with software vendors, data providers, and external consultants. Support software architecture, integration, testing, debugging, and performance optimization activities. Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to develop innovative geospatial solutions and provide technical leadership and mentorship to software development personnel. This role supports geospatial-based software design and development with emphasis on graphical user interfaces, backend logic, and database architecture.
Required Qualifications
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret Clearance
- Travel is expected a few times per year and will primarily consist of international travel
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geospatial Science, GIS, Computer Science, Geography, Environmental Science, or a related engineering discipline
- Six (6)+ years of software development experience
- Strong understanding of advanced programming concepts, including: Object-oriented programming, Design patterns, Multi-threading, Inter-process communication, Buffering, Persistence, Modeling and simulation
- Solid understanding of data filtering, real-time filtering, predictive modeling, and interpolation/smoothing techniques
- Experience conducting software performance tuning, troubleshooting, and debugging
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience developing software using C++ and/or C#
Desired Qualifications
- Experience with geospatial charts, Electronic Nautical Charts (ENCs), and Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS)
- Experience developing applications in Linux and Windows environments
- Experience with C, C++, C#, ASP.NET, Blazor, .NET Core, and Mono
- Familiarity with HDF5 and GML data formats/protocols
- Experience with UDP, TCP, and RS-232 communications protocols
- Experience developing graphical user interfaces using HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, and TypeScript
