Geospatial Architect (part-time)
Remote · Ukraine
Job Summary
Geospatial Architect (part-time) sought to design and implement a scalable backend that powers real-time weather hazard look-aheads for drivers across Canada. Responsibilities include architecting production-grade spatial backends, building a look-ahead routing engine that projects paths through a road-segment graph, integrating real-time GIS data streams and weather hazards, and optimizing state management and caching to minimize latency (<150ms) for API responses. Requires deep GIS/spatial indexing expertise (e.g., H3, S2, PostGIS, RTrees), strong graph traversal knowledge, experience with Kafka/MQTT/WebSockets, and a track record of delivering robust backend architectures for MVPs within tight timelines. Education reimbursement, flexible remote/office options, and other benefits are offered.
Required Qualifications
- Seniority: 7+ years in backend architecture, high-throughput real-time data pipelines
- Geospatial & GIS Expertise: Spatial indexing (H3, S2, PostGIS, RTrees) and map-matching; collaboration with GIS data teams
- Graph Traversal / Routing: Strong fundamentals in graph theory and traversal algorithms for directed road graphs
- Event-Driven Architecture: Experience with real-time streaming tools (Kafka, MQTT, WebSockets) and low-latency caching (Redis)
- Delivery: Proven ability to stand up scalable backend architectures for MVP within ~2.5 months
