Job Summary
Georgian Translator to support the Department of Justice with Translation, Interpretation, Transcription and other Linguistic Support Services. Materials may be legal, medical, financial, historical, or military in nature and provided in various formats, including digital, hard copy, and multimedia. Translate, transcribe, and interpret across a range of subjects, preserving tone and register while using CAT tools (SDL Trados Studio). Maintain strict confidentiality for sensitive material and comply with linguist ethics. Required: at least 2 years translation experience, ILR 3 or equivalent, U.S. residency in the past 5 years, 1+ year experience with a law enforcement/legal department, U.S. citizenship, bilingual proficiency in English and Georgian across formal and informal contexts, familiarity with government terminology, native-language writing proficiency, ability to translate without changes or omissions, active Public Trust or higher clearance, and willingness to travel. Roles may be remote, NCR, or CONUS locations. Travel may be required.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of two (2) years of translation experience
- Qualifying ILR 3 minimum or equivalent on language/translation tests
- Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S.
- Must have at least 1 year of experience working with a law enforcement and/or legal department
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Know both English and Georgian regulatory vocabularies in formal, legal, diplomatic, consultative and casual contexts
- Know specialized vocabulary in English and Georgian related to Government’s varied roles and missions; proficient in using translation resources and reference materials
- Fluent native-language writing with professional command of the non-native language
- Translate accurately without alterations or omissions; preserve tone and register
- Abide by relevant code of linguist ethics
- Proficient in using Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, with emphasis on SDL Trados Studio
- Clearance: Active Public Trust or higher security clearance
- Location: Remote / National Capital Region / Various CONUS Locations
- Travel: Some travel may be required
