Job Summary
Georgian Reviewer/Editor/Certifier to support the Department of Justice Linguistic Support Services (LSS). Responsible for translation, transcription, and interpretation of diverse legal materials from Georgian to English and vice versa, including court and deposition interpretation. Materials span medical, financial, regulatory, and technical domains with strict confidentiality. Requires ILR 4 minimum, five years of relevant experience, U.S. citizenship, and ability to work with sensitive material. Proficiency with CAT tools (SDL Trados Studio) and strong terminology research skills. Remote work available with National Capital Region or CONUS-location options; some travel may be required. Must maintain native Georgian writing with professional English and uphold ethical standards in translation.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Georgian language translation, interpretation, or editing within the past ten years
- ILR 4 or equivalent on language/translation tests
- Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S.
- Must have at least 1 year of experience working with a law enforcement and/or legal department (or equivalent legal context)
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Proficiency in English and Georgian across formal, diplomatic, consultative, and casual contexts; familiarity with slang and regionalisms
- Knowledge of specialized vocabulary in English and Georgian related to government missions and legal/technical domains
- Fluent writing in native Georgian with professional command of English
- Ability to translate without changes, omissions, or additions; maintain tone and register
- Commitment to confidentiality and ethics in linguistics
- Proficiency with Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, especially SDL Trados Studio
- Clearance: Active Public Trust or higher security clearance
- Location: Remote / National Capital Region / Various CONUS Locations; travel may be required
