Job Summary

Diagnose, maintain, and repair diesel, gasoline, and propane generator systems, including electrical and fuel components, to ensure reliable operation. Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot malfunctions, and replace faulty parts on refrigerated containers and reefer units, conducting leak detection, compressor replacements, and soldering as needed. Complete safety risk assessments before all work, inspect components, and obtain necessary replacement parts while adhering to manufacturer specifications. Conduct road calls and emergency services, communicate professionally with customers and team members, and actively participate in safety or educational training. Work outdoors in various weather conditions, lifting up to 150 lbs and standing for prolonged periods, while maintaining a clean and safe workplace environment.

Required Qualifications

  • TWIC Card (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) or ability to obtain one
  • High School Diploma
  • 2 years' hands-on experience in generator set and cargo container reefer maintenance, diagnosis and repair
  • Ability to utilize computer systems to diagnose reefer systems
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Must be able to speak and read conversational English
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States
  • Must be able to obtain a Ports ID
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to lift up to 150 lbs. with job aids or co-worker assistance
  • Must be able to carry up to 25 lbs. for a distance up to 200 feet
  • Must be able to push/pull up to 80 lbs. without assistance and up to 250 lbs. with job aids or co-worker assistance
  • Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be able to work outdoors in hot/humid, cold, and other inclement weather conditions
  • Must be able to perform stooping/bending/squatting activities
  • Must be able to perform kneeling/crouching/crawling activities
  • Must be able to perform climbing activities
  • Must be able to perform reaching activities
  • Must be able to perform twisting activities
  • Must be able to wear safety glasses
  • Must be able to wear steel-toed/safety shoes
  • Must be able to wear appropriate safety gloves as needed
  • Must be able to wear proper attire
  • Must be able to perform road calls and emergency services as necessary
  • Must be able to complete a safety risk assessment prior to all work performed
  • Must be consistently capable of independently analyzing and safely resolving problems
  • Must be able to identify and obtain necessary replacement parts as needed to execute repairs
  • Must be able to perform preventative maintenance and repairs of container refrigeration
  • Must be able to conduct general and non-scheduled maintenance, including inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and/or replacing components and systems
  • Must be able to ensure safe use of all shop equipment, power and hand-held tools
  • Must be able to communicate professionally with team members, supervisors, and customers
  • Must be able to actively participate in safety or educational training as required
  • Must be able to follow all safety standards & guidelines
