Job Summary
Obtain personal and family medical histories to assess cancer risk and germline mutation potential. Determine if genetic testing is indicated based on national guidelines, obtain informed consent, and interpret results to provide post-test counseling and medical management recommendations. Discuss screening, prevention, and cascade testing options while weighing psychosocial and ethical impacts of testing. Collaborate with physicians on multidisciplinary teams, monitor program quality, and supervise counseling students. Participate in research activities, committees, and public education efforts to advance patient care and professional standards.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in genetic counseling
- Board certification by the American Board of Genetic Counselors (ABGC)
- Exceptional communication skills
