Genetics Counselor

Obtain personal and family medical histories to assess cancer risk and germline mutation potential. Determine if genetic testing is indicated based on national guidelines, weigh medical and psychosocial impacts, and coordinate testing with informed consent. Interpret test results, provide post-test counseling, and discuss screening and prevention recommendations. Collaborate with physicians on multidisciplinary teams, supervise counseling students, and participate in case conferences and research activities. Monitor program quality and implement improvements in patient care efficiency and safety.
