Job Summary

Conduct genetic counseling for individuals and families at risk for hereditary disorders, gathering historical records and family health conditions for medical assessment. Assess recurrence risks and recommend medical or genetic testing based on risk, benefit, and cost analysis. Educate patients and health professionals about genetic disorders while ensuring appropriate referrals and care. Review literature and translate findings into reports for patients or lab techs, collaborating with physicians, nurses, and directors on result reporting. Provide crisis intervention regarding unexpected genetic conditions and coordinate between clinic and laboratory settings. Operate within an integrated nonprofit health system serving over 2 million patients across the upper Midwest, with a focus on rural communities and senior care transformation.

Required Qualifications

  • Master of science from a program accredited by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC)
  • Applicable state licensure
  • Board certification through the American Board of Genetic Counselors (ABGC) or the American Board of Medical Genetics (ABMG)
  • Documentation of graduation from an accredited program
  • Ability to sit for respective certification within their first year
