Job Summary

Generator Technician responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining generator sets at customer sites. Duties include planning work and travel with the Service Manager, diagnosing and repairing malfunctions, installing new assemblies, performing preventive maintenance (including changing fluids, inspecting AC/DC systems, belts, hoses, and exhaust), conducting load bank tests and testing automatic transfer switches, arranging facilities to perform repair work, documenting service activities and charges, and training junior technicians. Requires use of a multimeter, own tools, strong computer skills, good customer-facing demeanor, and availability for occasional overnight travel; valid driver’s license and ability to obtain a Class D license; on-call 24/7 as needed. Education is High School diploma or GED; experience with diesel/gas engines and electrical systems is preferred, with power-generation experience a plus.

Required Qualifications

  • High School graduate or GED
  • Experience with diesel and/or gas engines including servicing and repairing
  • Some Electrical experience and general knowledge of wiring including reading diagrams
  • AC and DC experience with Power Generation would be a plus
  • Must know how to use a multimeter
  • Must have own tools
  • Must have good computer skills
  • Work well with others and possess good people skills
  • Professional attitude and ability to work with customers one-on-one
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record to be insurable by corporate insurance carrier; must be able to obtain at least a Class D Driver's License
  • Ability to stay overnight at out-of-town locations on occasion
  • On-call rotation 24/7 at times
  • All other duties as assigned
  • Education: High School or GED; Diesel/gas engines experience; Electrical knowledge; Knowledge of wiring; Power Generation experience a plus
  • Job responsibilities include diagnosing malfunctions, repairs/replacements, on-site service planning, preventative maintenance, documentation and training
