Job Summary
Generator Technician sought to mechanically diagnose, maintain, service and repair standby power generators (gas and diesel engine), including switch gears and electronic controls. Responsibilities include performing failure analysis, emergency field service or repairs, inspecting and repairing fuel, cooling and electrical systems, conducting load bank testing and recording instrumentation, staying current on product changes, compiling repair/maintenance/estimates records, operating and maintaining company vehicles, and inventory management of parts in the vehicle. Requires minimum 5 years of direct standby power experience, with factory certifications on Cummins, Kohler, Generac as a plus. Must be proficient with diesel/gas engines, solid state and PLC controllers, reading electrical schematics/drawings, and multi-meter/clampp testing; strong problem solving, organization, and customer-service skills. This on-site role is based in Canton, CT with employer-provided vehicle and benefits.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years’ direct industry experience in standby power generation
- Factory certification on Cummins, Kohler & Generac are a big plus
- Repairs and general maintenance of gas and diesel-powered generation equipment and automatic transfer switches
- Experience with solid state, microprocessor, PLC engine and generator controllers
- Knowledge of diesel engines and controllers
- Ability to read and follow electric schematics and drawings
- Experience performing multi-meter and amperage clamp testing
- Strong problem solving and critical thinking capability
- Excellent customer service combining technical knowledge with detail-oriented follow-through
- Accountability and organization to work independently
