Job Summary
The position requires a Principal Electrical Engineer with expertise in generators, power systems, analog electronics, and control systems. Responsibilities include optimizing generator systems, providing support for legacy products, and leading design efforts based on performance specifications. The role involves extensive analysis, simulation, documentation of power generation and conversion circuitry, and troubleshooting. Candidates must have 8+ years of relevant experience, preferably in power generation and system design, and be proficient in MATLAB/Simulink.
Required Qualifications
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years’ of prior relevant experience
- 8+ years of experience in power generation, power system design, power conversion, power distribution, power sub-system design and/or control systems
- Experience in modeling and simulation using MATLAB/Simulink or similar modeling tools
- Experience with safety issues related to working with and servicing rotating electromechanical systems and high voltage systems greater than 500VAC
Desired Qualifications
- Fundamental knowledge of different types of electromagnetic rotating machinery (motors and/or generators)
- Experience with electric motor manufacturing processes such as stator windings, lamination stacking, stator varnishing, and various insulation classes
- Knowledge of synchronous and induction machine design of motors and generators
- Electromechanical experience with electric motors and generators, including collaboration with suppliers to identify COTS components and custom modifications as needed
- Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering
- Willingness to travel, both around the country and world in support of our programs and customers
- Hardware development experience in the Department of Defense (DoD) environment
- Demonstrated ability to lead/manage a technical team
- Experience generating technical documentation and reports
- Knowledge of test and production methods for electronics/power system components
- Experience interfacing with procurement and manufacturing as well as external suppliers to ensure proper implementation of product designs
- Experience interfacing with DoD customer community
- Existing security clearance
