Job Summary
Operate, maintain, and repair a fleet of containerized diesel generator sets used in refrigerated cargo service. Perform preventative maintenance, electrical and mechanical diagnostics, and troubleshoot repairs on diesel engines, three-phase AC generators, and control systems. Inspect and maintain AC electrical panels, circuit breakers, and transformers while conducting load bank testing to ensure equipment reliability. Safely transfer diesel fuel between tanks and check generator sets during live refrigerated container loads both shore side and on board barges. Train other personnel in power generation equipment operation and assist refrigeration technicians as required. This safety-sensitive position requires a 2-year vocational degree in Diesel Technology and 5 years of marine diesel engine experience. Travel to Alaska twice yearly as needed.
Required Qualifications
- 2 year vocational/technical degree in Diesel Technology or related field
- minimum of 5 years' experience with mechanical & electronic diesel engine service & repair in industrial and/or marine environments
- Previous 15 – 500 kw power generation experience
- experience with Caterpillar, Cummins/Onan, and/or John Deere
- Good AC and DC electrical aptitude
- ability to read and understand electrical schematics and diagrams
- Previous experience with rigging/blocking/lofting of equipment for the removal/installation of major components
- Ability to meet a regular work schedule
- Ability and willingness to work overtime as required
- Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work to meet schedules/deadlines
- Regular attendance and timeliness

- Ability to work alone or as part of a team with minimal supervision
- Must be flexible and adaptive to constant changes
