Job Summary

Operate, maintain, and repair a fleet of containerized diesel generator sets used in refrigerated cargo service. Perform preventative maintenance, electrical and mechanical diagnostics, and overhaul major components including engine rebuilds, three-phase AC generator repairs, and AC electrical panel work. Conduct load bank testing, safely transfer diesel fuel, and inspect running generator sets on shore and aboard barges. Train personnel on power generation equipment and manage inventory and tooling requests with Shop Lead and Purchasing. Assist refrigeration technicians as required. This safety-sensitive role involves travel to Alaska twice yearly for extended periods. Applicants must possess a 2-year vocational degree in Diesel Technology and 5+ years of marine diesel engine experience.

Required Qualifications

  • 2 year vocational/technical degree in Diesel Technology or related field
  • minimum of 5 years' experience with mechanical & electronic diesel engine service & repair in industrial and/or marine environments
  • Previous 15 – 500 kw power generation experience
  • experience with Caterpillar, Cummins/Onan, and/or John Deere
  • Good AC and DC electrical aptitude
  • ability to read and understand electrical schematics and diagrams
  • Previous experience with rigging/blocking/lofting of equipment for the removal/installation of major components
  • Ability to meet a regular work schedule
  • Ability and willingness to work overtime as required
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work to meet schedules/deadlines
  • Regular attendance and timeliness
  • Daily physical presence
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team with minimal supervision
  • Must be flexible and adaptive to constant changes
