Job Summary

Conduct preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and emergency service on standby generators, including replacing batteries, chargers, belts, hoses, filters, and performing engine tune-ups for gasoline and diesel systems. Perform start-up load bank tests, inspect alternators, wiring harnesses, and safety devices, and diagnose failures in Kohler, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, John Deere, MTU, and Volvo engines. Write clear service reports, communicate factual information to customers, and maintain assigned vehicle inventory while traveling throughout local counties. Operate in a constant state of alertness, respond to emergency calls, and perform manual labor for up to 12 hours per day.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in the repair and maintenance of generator systems, from 8kW to 2800 kW
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Must have the ability to perform high-quality work in a timely and efficient manner
  • Good communication skills
  • Enthusiastic attitude
  • Great customer service skills
  • Must have a satisfactory driving record
  • Ability to obtain a DOT medical certification
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry items up to 75 lbs. in weight
  • Ability to pass a fit-for-duty physical exam
  • Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to perform manual labor for up to 12 or more hours per day
  • Acute hearing
  • Strong field of vision
  • Ability to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions
  • Must be able to travel, in a company service vehicle, throughout the local counties
  • Must be able to be on-call for emergency services
  • Must have the ability to operate in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
  • Must complete a pre-employed drug screen successfully

Desired Qualifications

  • Graduation from a Technical school
  • Experience with generators, diesel, power gen, electric power, relay or substation technology, etc.
  • Minimum 3 years' experience in the repair and maintenance of generator systems, from 8kW to 2800 kW preferred
