Job Summary
Perform general maintenance and repair of building structures, including woodwork, electrical switches, plumbing fixtures, and broken glass. Inspect building exteriors, interiors, playground equipment, and grounds for minor repairs or major issues requiring reporting. Assist skilled workers with tasks such as painting, installing door assemblies, hanging bulletin boards, and relocating furniture. Operate a light truck to transport equipment and use hand and power tools following established safety procedures. Correct unsafe conditions and maintain tools as required. Work irregular hours, travel district-wide, and lift heavy items daily.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Texas driver's license
- Satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Knowledge of basic construction and routine maintenance and repair procedures
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbally)
- Ability to operate hand and power tools
- Ability to work independently
- One-year experience in general building maintenance
- Must be able to lift 45 pounds and over on a daily basis
- Must be able to work outside and inside
- Must be able to work on slippery or uneven walking surfaces
- Must be able to work on surfaces with extreme hot and cold temperatures
- Must be able to work around dust, toxic chemicals and materials
- Must be able to work around noise, vibration, and electrical hazards
- Must be able to work around machinery with moving parts
- Must be able to work alone
- Must be able to work irregular hours
- Must be able to work occasional prolonged hours
- Must be able to perform frequent district wide travel
- Must be able to maintain emotional control under stress
