Job Summary
Army General Surgeon responsibilities include leading a military health care team, examining, diagnosing, consulting, prescribing treatments, and performing surgeries for Soldiers, retirees, and their families. The role involves participating in continued education programs, trainings, seminars, humanitarian missions, leadership development, and collaboration with fellow general surgeons to advance patient care and Army medical practice. Opportunities exist to serve on Active Duty or in the Army Reserve, with benefits such as education-loan repayment, specialty pay, travel, paid leave, retirement benefits, and healthcare for you and your family.
Required Qualifications
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) from an accredited U.S. school of medicine or osteopathy
- Current license to practice medicine in the United States, District of Columbia or Puerto Rico
- Must be eligible for board certification
- Must have completed at least one year of an approved Graduate Medical Education (GME) internship
- Must have completed a training program in general surgery
- Must be a U.S. citizen to serve on Active Duty
- Must have a permanent U.S. residency for Army Reserve
- Foreign graduates may apply if they have a permanent certificate from the Educational Council of Foreign Medical Graduates
