Job Summary
General Surgeon on the U.S. Army health care team responsible for examining, diagnosing, consulting, and prescribing treatment, and performing surgeries for Soldiers, retirees, and their families. The role involves front-line surgical work, participation in continued education and trainings, opportunities to advance through humanitarian missions and leadership training, and travel with benefits including loan repayment options, accession bonuses, STRAP stipends for residents, and a blended retirement system. The position supports active duty service with potential Army Reserve eligibility and travel opportunities, while delivering comprehensive medical and surgical care within a military healthcare framework.
Required Qualifications
- Must have a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree from an accredited U.S. school of medicine or osteopathy
- Foreign graduates may apply if they have a permanent certificate from the Educational Council of Foreign Medical Graduates
- Must have a current license to practice medicine in the United States, District of Columbia or Puerto Rico
- Must be eligible for board certification
- Must have completed at least one year of an approved Graduate Medical Education (GME) internship
- Must have completed a training program in general surgery
- Must be a U.S. citizen to serve on Active Duty
- Must have a permanent U.S. residency for Army Reserve
