Job Summary
Perform general inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs on assigned areas, including specialty systems like nurse call, fire alarm, and medical gas equipment. Execute preventive maintenance inspections, maintain documentation, and handle laundry equipment, portable phones, beds, wheelchairs, surgical equipment, and sterilizers within the assigned zone. Complete all jobs, including emergencies, and work on-call for extended hours. Requires a high school diploma, two years of commercial or hospital maintenance experience, and familiarity with plumbing, electrical, HVAC-R, and carpentry. Must possess a valid driver's license and ability to lift up to 100 pounds.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 2 years of experience in commercial, industrial or hospital maintenance
- Valid driver's license in the state of residence
- Trade school or company school with a license or certification when required by a Regulatory Agency or Ochsner Health System as job duties dictates in any of the following disciplines: pneumatics, steam, electrical, electronics, hydraulics, refrigeration, welding, plumbing or machine work
- Must be familiar with a wide range of skilled crafts including, but not limited to, plumbing, electrical, HVAC-R and carpentry
- Must be mechanically inclined with the ability to multi-task and work with minimal supervision
- Working knowledge of state, parish, and building codes, as well as JCAHO standards
- Self-directed with the ability handle the mental and physical stress/pressure to complete all jobs, including emergencies
- Must be able to work indoors, outdoors, and in restricted spaces for extended periods of time
- Strong skills reading, writing and understanding mechanical and electrical symbolisms to properly interpret blueprints, schematics specifications and mechanical drawings
- Must be able to properly handle power and hand tools required to perform job duties effectively
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to apply effective judgment when performing job duties
- Must be able to work on-call for emergencies and extended hours
- Must be able to lift 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects
