General Mechanic - Days

Job Summary
Conduct general inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs of minor electrical, mechanical, and plumbing items within the hospital or clinic setting, including unclogging lines, replacing fixtures, and addressing specialty systems like nurse call and fire alarms. Perform preventive maintenance inspections in accordance with scheduled checkpoints and maintain documentation appropriately. Respond to assigned departmental maintenance needs by executing repairs or replacing affected equipment, referring requests beyond scope to the Facilities leader. Complete on-call rotations for emergencies and extended hours, remaining onsite during severe weather or disasters. Assist other Hospital and Clinic departments with daily maintenance and support services as required.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent
- 2 years of experience in Commercial, Industrial or Hospital Maintenance or completion of the Ochsner Apprenticeship program
- Valid driver's license in the state of residence
- Experience with all hand and power tools
- Must be familiar with a wide range of skilled crafts including, but not limited to, plumbing, electrical, HVAC-R and carpentry
- Working knowledge of state, parish, and building codes, as well as JCAHO standards
- Must be able to work indoors, outdoors, and in restricted spaces for extended periods of time
- Basic knowledge of reading, writing and understanding mechanical and electrical symbolisms to properly interpret blueprints, schematics specifications and mechanical drawings
- Must be able to properly handle power and hand tools required to perform job duties effectively
- Must be able to work on-call for emergencies and extended hours
- Must be able to lift 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly
- Must be able to handle the mental and physical stress/pressure to complete all jobs, including emergencies
