The General Manager leads the portfolio’s performance and resident experience, coordinating a team of managers, specialists, and maintenance staff to meet budgeted targets and regulatory standards. Responsibilities include ensuring top-tier customer service, overseeing leasing and relocations, managing vendor and asset projects, driving occupancy and community standards, and aligning operations with company policies. Requires strong leadership, financial acumen, and the ability to travel between local properties while maintaining Essex’s values and ensuring Fair Housing and OSHA compliance.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent or bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) preferred
- 5+ years of community management experience
- 2+ years of supervisory experience
- Ability to work on-site and travel between local collection properties as needed
- Excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills
- Ability to write reports, manuals, speeches, and articles; ability to present to groups
