General Maintenance Worker

Job Summary
Perform general maintenance and repair of building structures and mechanical, electrical, and sanitary systems throughout the district. Assist skilled workers with repairing woodwork, replacing electrical fixtures, painting, and fixing plumbing. Inspect building exteriors, interiors, playground equipment, and grounds; perform minor repairs and assist with mowing and detailing. Detect and report major repairs on structures and systems, then complete repairs as directed on work orders. Move, install, and repair school furniture and playground equipment. Follow established safety procedures, correct unsafe conditions, and maintain tools and equipment. Requires two years of general building maintenance experience, a valid Texas driver's license, and ability to operate hand and power tools.
Required Qualifications
- Clear and valid Texas driver's license
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Knowledge of basic construction and routine maintenance and repair procedures
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbally)
- Ability to operate hand and power tools
- Ability to work independently
- Two years experience in general building maintenance
- Must be able to lift 45 pounds and over on a daily basis
- Must be able to work outside and inside
- Must be able to work on slippery or uneven walking surfaces
- Must be able to work on surfaces with extreme hot and cold temperatures
- Must be able to work in environments with dust, toxic chemicals and materials
- Must be able to work in environments with noise, vibration, and electrical hazards
- Must be able to work around machinery with moving parts
- Must be able to work alone
- Must be able to work irregular hours
- Must be able to work occasional prolonged hours
- Must be able to travel districtwide
- Must be able to maintain emotional control under stress
