Job Summary
Mow, edge, and trim grass, trees, and shrubs; plant grass, shrubs, and trees; water, fertilize, and spray for weeds. Assist with preparing and marking athletic fields, perform periodic cleanups of district sites, and empty trash cans. Spread salt, remove ice and snow from walkways, and clean or disinfect outdoor restrooms, drinking fountains, and other facilities. Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and report major damage to the supervisor. The role requires standing or walking 7–8 hours daily, frequent bending, squatting, and lifting up to 75 pounds. Candidates must possess manual dexterity, visual ability, and hearing to operate motorized equipment and communicate with workers, judges, and the public. The position involves working outdoors with temperature changes and exposure to chemicals, dust, and fumes. On-call status is 24 hours.
Required Qualifications
- Use of a ladder
- Ability to stand/walk approximately 7-8 hours per day
- Ability to bend/stoop, climb, squat/crouch, push/pull
- Ability to carry/lift up to 75 pounds
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to lift 40 pound bags
- Manual dexterity/visual ability to operate motorized equipment
- Hearing/speaking ability to communicate with fellow workers, athletic judges, and the students/public
- Mental requirement to understand and follow instructions and avoid safety problems
- Ability to work outdoors with temperature changes
- Ability to operate motorized equipment
- Ability to work with exposure to toxic chemicals, dust, fumes, and gases
- Ability to be on call 24 hours
