General Maintenance II

Job Summary

Conduct general maintenance and repair work across district schools and facilities, performing unskilled to skilled tasks including inspecting buildings for safety, assisting with minor repairs, and completing capital construction projects. Load, transport, and deliver equipment and materials to work sites while maintaining accurate records of completed work and supplies used. Operate various tools and vehicles such as a pickup truck, bucket truck, and forklift, and perform groundskeeping duties like mowing, pruning, and repairing pavement when assigned. Remain on call after regular hours for emergency responses and respond to concerns and inquiries from staff, administrators, and the public. Requires a high school diploma, valid driver's license, and one to two years of facility maintenance experience.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Specialized vocational training
  • One to two years of related facility maintenance experience
  • Equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Valid state driver's license
  • Ability to walk, stand, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, stretch or lift all of the time
  • Ability to exert between 20 and 50 pounds of force on a recurring basis
  • Considerable skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs in tasks involving very close tolerances or limits of accuracy
  • Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or compositional characteristics of data, people, or things
  • Ability of speaking and/or signaling people to convey or exchange information

  • Working knowledge of the methods, practices and procedures of skilled maintenance as it pertains to building maintenance and grounds maintenance functions
  • Working knowledge of the various codes and ordinances related to building maintenance and construction
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trades
  • Ability to work effectively despite occasional exposure to heat / cold, odors, toxic agents / hazardous materials, noise, wetness, humidity, electric currents, machinery hazards, dusts, vibrations, working in confined and/or high spaces, etc.
  • Ability to skillfully and safely operate assigned vehicles, equipment and tools
  • Ability to read and interpret simple blueprints, schematics, diagrams and other technical materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job
  • Ability to offer assistance to co-workers and employees of other departments as required
  • Ability to prepare simple records and reports with accuracy and in a timely manner
  • Knowledge of the terminology used within the department
  • Knowledge of proper English usage
