Job Summary
The General Maintenance Helper assists with maintenance of buildings and plumbing and heating systems in Anchorage School District buildings. Entry-level position reports to a department lead and participates in preventive maintenance of plumbing and heating systems, routine cleaning of boilers/boiler rooms/fan rooms, and minor building repairs. The role requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds (with assistance for heavier lifts), work at heights over 20 feet, follow oral and written instructions, use computer applications, and maintain safe working relationships in a diverse environment. Preferred qualifications include familiarity with heating/ventilation and plumbing systems, painting, carpentry, grounds maintenance, one year of maintenance experience in the last three years, and a State of Alaska Boiler Operator's Certificate of Fitness (4th class within 12 months of hire). The position may involve work in ASD facilities on military installations (JBER). The district emphasizes English literacy and contingent background checks for employment.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent, or current enrollment in a GED program.
- Work experience indicating ability to perform the essential job functions.
- A valid Alaska driver's license.
