Job Summary
Under general supervision, the General Maintenance Assistant performs general maintenance and repair tasks including basic carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing, event support, and other building systems. Essential duties include completing minor repairs (doors, locks, door frames and handles; light bulbs, sockets, switches; window glass), basic plumbing (unclog drains; fix leaks), regular cleaning, assisting with HVAC repair, roofing maintenance, carpentry and electrical installations, inventory of supplies, setup for events, responding to emergency repairs, and ensuring maintenance equipment is in good working order. The position is based at the Honolulu Museum of Art and requires the ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. Salary range is $21.00-$23.00 per hour with a comprehensive benefits package.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of carpentry, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and proper use of hand/power tools.
- Understanding of basic HIOSH/OSHA requirements, safety, and first aid procedures.
- Effective communication skills with the ability to work independently and in a team setting.
- Strong focus on attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to multitask and manage multiple projects/deadlines.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Honesty, integrity, enthusiasm, perspective, and a strong work ethic supported by commitment and follow-through.
- Ability to work within and support a diverse community of visitors, artists, and employees.
