Job Summary

Handle a diverse caseload of general liability insurance defense matters, with an emphasis on specialty lines. Defend clients in D&O, E&O, and other professional liability matters. Manage cases from initial assignment through resolution, including investigation, discovery, depositions, motions, negotiations, and trial when necessary. Analyze liability, damages, coverage issues, and litigation exposure. Develop and execute effective litigation and defense strategies. Draft and review pleadings, motions, discovery, correspondence, and other legal documents. Conduct legal research and prepare legal memoranda. Take and defend depositions and participate in hearings, mediations, and other proceedings. Communicate regularly with clients, insurance carriers, claims professionals, opposing counsel, experts, and other stakeholders. Manage case deadlines, budgets, and billable-hour requirements. Work collaboratively with other attorneys and legal professionals to achieve favorable outcomes for clients. Contribute to the continued growth of the firm's specialty-lines practice.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience practicing insurance defense in Illinois
  • Active Illinois Bar admission
  • Strong background in general liability defense litigation
  • Experience independently managing litigation matters
  • Strong legal research, writing, negotiation, and courtroom skills
  • Ability to manage multiple matters and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to meet the firm's 1,950 annual billable-hour requirement

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Directors & Officers (D&O) litigation
  • Experience with Errors & Omissions (E&O) / professional liability matters
  • Specialty-lines insurance defense experience
  • Indiana Bar admission is preferred
  • Existing book of business or demonstrated ability to develop business
  • Experience working directly with insurance carriers, claims professionals, and sophisticated corporate clients
